The suburb sits between Clarence Park to the north, Westbourne Park to the east and Clarence Gardens to the west, with Colonel Light Gardens to the south-east. It was farmland before it was houses — the Cabra Dominican College site on Cross Road remained farmland until the school was developed in the early 1900s. Today the Goodwood Road and Cross Road frontages carry most of the local retail.
The most important thing to know before painting is the planning status. In March 2022, Ministerial approval was granted for amendments to the Planning and Design Code adding Character Area Overlays over parts of several City of Mitcham suburbs, this one included. Parts of the suburb also moved from Suburban Neighbourhood to Established Neighbourhood zoning.
In plain terms: on some properties the original external character carries planning weight. Repainting in the same scheme is generally straightforward, but changing an original external finish is a different question worth confirming with the council first. We would rather raise that before you spend money than after.

SA Health advises assuming that buildings constructed before the mid-1970s contain lead-based paint. Dry sanding it spreads contaminated dust through the garden, the soil and the house.
What we do: Pre-1970s paintwork is treated as lead-containing, using containment, wet preparation methods and correct waste disposal.
Properties fronting Cross Road and Goodwood Road take more traffic film, dust and exhaust residue than a quiet street. Paint will not bond properly to a dirty surface, however good the product.
What we do: Thorough washing and surface testing before any coating, and a finish chosen so it can be cleaned down the track without polishing up.
Residential painting

Preparation decides how long a paint job lasts. Every surface is cleaned, filled, sanded and primed, and your furniture, floors and fittings are protected throughout.
