AJ Blunt Painting was engaged to carry out the external restoration and painting of a heritage home in Yankalilla. The residence, known for its traditional rendered façade and historic architectural features, required a careful balance of aesthetic preservation and long-term surface protection.
Our brief included extensive render repairs followed by the application of a traditional lime wash finish — chosen to align with the home’s original character and the surrounding heritage streetscape.

Working on a property of this age required a considered and traditional approach. Our team coordinated with heritage consultants to ensure the materials and techniques used respected the building’s original construction.
The lime wash, hand-applied in several coats, provided a soft, breathable finish ideal for older masonry and render. Its natural variation in tone and texture enhanced the authentic appearance of the façade while allowing the surface to naturally “breathe,” reducing moisture retention and prolonging the life of the render.
Through meticulous preparation and scheduling, our team ensured the project progressed efficiently without compromising finish quality.
The completed project restored the home’s natural beauty while maintaining full heritage integrity. The soft, chalky finish of the lime wash complemented the home’s period detailing, reinstating its timeless charm and delivering a breathable, sustainable coating system designed to age gracefully.
This project is an excellent example of AJ Blunt Painting’s expertise in traditional heritage methods — blending craftsmanship, technical knowledge, and respect for historical architecture.
