A Character Area Overlay applies to parts of your suburb. We will tell you what that means before we quote.
Cumberland Park sits about 5 km south of the city, bounded by Cross Road, Goodwood Road, Edward Street and Winston Avenue. AJ Blunt Painting has been painting Adelaide’s inner south since 1982, from an office on Belair Road at Hawthorn.

We plan the work around your household rather than around our schedule. A free site visit at a time that suits you, then a written proposal within 24 hours.
That proposal sets out the stages, the timeline, what needs moving and when, and a sensible weather allowance. You will know what is included before you commit, and the number does not move unless you change the scope.
Our office is on Belair Road at Hawthorn, a short drive away, so site visits and any follow-up are straightforward to arrange.

The suburb sits between Clarence Park to the north, Westbourne Park to the east and Clarence Gardens to the west, with Colonel Light Gardens to the south-east. It was farmland before it was houses — the Cabra Dominican College site on Cross Road remained farmland until the school was developed in the early 1900s. Today the Goodwood Road and Cross Road frontages carry most of the local retail.
The most important thing to know before painting is the planning status. In March 2022, Ministerial approval was granted for amendments to the Planning and Design Code adding Character Area Overlays over parts of several City of Mitcham suburbs, this one included. Parts of the suburb also moved from Suburban Neighbourhood to Established Neighbourhood zoning.
In plain terms: on some properties the original external character carries planning weight. Repainting in the same scheme is generally straightforward, but changing an original external finish is a different question worth confirming with the council first. We would rather raise that before you spend money than after.
Rainfall across the City of Mitcham also runs 25 to 50 per cent higher than on the Adelaide Plains, which narrows the reliable window for exterior work and makes mould more common on shaded walls.

Preparation is key to any successful painting job. Our painters Adelaide team prides itself on careful preparation. We don't rush; instead, we take the necessary time to ensure every surface is primed and ready. We also make sure to respect your space and belongings. That's why we go the extra mile to ensure everything is protected from any potential paint splashes or dust.
This is where the magic happens! With a careful selection of only the highest quality paints and materials, our skilled painters in Adelaide will bring your vision to life. Our painter Adelaide professionals blend their years of experience with unmatched skill, ensuring each task is completed with precision.
Quality is at the heart of everything we do. Once the primary painting process is finished, we don't just pack up and leave. Instead, we invite you to walk through the freshly painted area with our team. This step ensures every tiny detail aligns with your expectations.
From a single room to a full interior and exterior repaint, we handle the lot.
Inside, we cover walls, ceilings, doors and trim, with honest advice on finishes — washable products where the traffic justifies them, wet-area paint in bathrooms and laundries. We work room by room so the house stays usable.
Outside, preparation is where the job is won or lost. Every surface is cleaned, filled, sanded and primed before any topcoat. Properties fronting Cross Road and Goodwood Road collect more traffic film and dust than a quiet street, and paint will not bond to a dirty surface no matter how good the product.

The Goodwood Road and Cross Road frontages carry a good deal of commercial property, and we paint it.
Shopfronts, offices and tenancies are scheduled around your trading hours, with evening and weekend work where closing is not viable. Safe work method statements, licensing and insurance are supplied up front, and the staging plan is agreed in writing before work starts.
Parts of it are. In March 2022 Ministerial approval was granted for amendments to the Planning and Design Code adding Character Area Overlays over parts of several City of Mitcham suburbs, including the suburb. Whether your specific address is affected is best confirmed with the City of Mitcham, and we are happy to help you frame that question.
Repainting an already-painted surface in the same scheme is normally straightforward. Changing an original external finish in a Character Area is a different question and worth checking first. We will raise it at the quoting stage rather than leaving you to find out later.
Condition matters more than size. We quote from a free site visit rather than over the phone, and the written proposal itemises preparation separately so you can compare it honestly against other quotes.
Spring and autumn are best in Adelaide, and they book out early. Rainfall across the City of Mitcham runs well above the Adelaide Plains, so we build realistic weather allowance into exterior schedules.
Possibly. SA Health advises assuming buildings built before the mid-1970s contain lead-based paint. We treat older paintwork accordingly and prepare it safely.
Yes. Licence BLD 21766, full public liability insurance, a 5-year workmanship warranty in writing, and Master Painters Australia Gold Awards in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
